The Family Caregivers Center offers a variety of free events for family caregivers and the person for whom they care. See below for descriptions of regularly occurring events.
Drop-in Support Group: A support group for caregivers to share their story and connect with others in like circumstances.
Male Caregiver Coffee: A support group for male caregivers to share, learn caregiving tips and network with others.
Mindful Caregiver Support Group: A support group open to those who have participated in the Mindful Caregiver or Dementia Handbook Book Studies.
Life After Caregiving Support Group: A support group with discussion topics for those processing their grief after the death of the person for whom they were caring.
Grief After Loss Series: A two- to three-week series focused on grief offered every other month for those who have experienced the death of the person for whom they were caring.
Book Studies: The Mindful Caregiver by Nancy Kriseman; The Dementia Handbook by Judy Cornish
Question & Answer Sessions: Quarterly question and answer sessions about Veterans Benefits and Medicaid.
Dementia with Dignity Discussion: A dementia-focused discussion and Q&A with education provided by author Judy Cornish.
Comprehensive Planning Guide: A three-week series focused on planning for the future and includes creating your own guide.
Other Educational Events: Presentations on a variety of caregiver-related topics.
Chair Yoga: Weekly chair yoga with no complex maneuvers or prior experience required. Music with Friends A sing-a-long with familiar tunes and others who enjoy music.
Together in Song Chorus: A chorus for those living with chronic conditions, their care partners and volunteers.
Conversations for Couples: A group for couples with one partner living with dementia to socialize, share and connect monthly with other couples.
Gardening: Hands-on gardening education sessions with the Linn County Master Gardeners.
Art: Free home-delivered art kits from “Art Is...In” with the University of Chicago for those living with memory loss and their care partners.
