Imaging procedures require a physician's order. Contact your provider via MyChart to discuss your options with your primary care provider.
This technology combines two separate methods: a nuclear medicine SPECT scan to measure physiologic activity and a CT scanner to record anatomic information. Benefits of this technology include:
Instead of the radioactive glucose tracer used with PET/CT, SPECT/CT uses a different family of radiotracers for the nuclear medicine portion of the study. Like PET/CT, SPECT/CT technology allows us to acquire images in all three dimensions. In contrast to PET/CT, SPECT/CT usually is limited to the area of concern, often significantly reducing radiation exposure.
SPECT/CT combines the functional imaging of nuclear medicine with the precise anatomic localization offered by CT. The result is a more accurate study.
SPECT/CT, with its marriage of functional and anatomic information, provides a more accurate diagnosis and, ultimately, better patient care.
