Mercy Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Clinic offers two different neuromodulator products given via injection and indicated to treat adult patients for improvement of facial lines and wrinkles.
Who is a Good Candidate
Approved for ages 18 to 65 looking to minimize appearance of lines and wrinkles.
Who is Not a Candidate
- Those with known allergies to botulinum toxin products.
- Those with any skin infection or inflammation at injection sites (including acne, sunburn).
- Those with known neuromuscular disorders (ex: ALS, myasthenia gravis, Lambert-Eaton Syndrome) due to increased risk of adverse side effects.
- Those pregnant or breastfeeding, as there are no studies on risk associated with use in this population.
- Dysport should not be used for patients with an allergy to cow’s milk protein.
Possible Side Effects or Risks
While rare when used correctly, side effects and reported complications include: dry mouth; discomfort or pain at the injection site; tiredness; headache; neck pain; and eye problems, including double vision, blurred vision, decreased eyesight, drooping eyelids and eyebrows, swelling of eyelids, and dry eyes.
How Long Until I See Results and How Long Will My Results Last?
- The results are temporary and can be influenced by metabolism, activity level, injection technique, location of treatment and frequency of use.
- Botox: most will notice results between 1 to 2 weeks after treatment with results lasting up to 4 months.
- Dysport: most notice results in 1 to 3 days with results lasting up to 5 months.
