Who is a Good Candidate
Adults over the age of 21.
Who is Not a Candidate
- Those with allergies to lidocaine or hyaluronic acid.
- Those that are pregnant or breastfeeding, as use of fillers during these times has not been studied.
Possible Side Effects or Risks
- The most common side effects include: redness, swelling, pain, tenderness, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, discoloration and itching.
- If you have a history of excessive scarring or pigment disorders, use of fillers may result in additional scars or changes in pigmentation.
- There is risk of infection, particularly if injected over any sores, cysts, rashes, etc. If you are on any therapies that lower your body's natural defense system (steroids, chemotherapy, etc.), they may increase your risk for infection.
- Medications that prolong bleeding time (aspirin, ibuprofen, blood thinners) can increase risk for bruising or bleeding at injection sites.
- One risk of fillers is unintentional injection into a blood vessel, which can cause issues with vision (including blindness), stroke and permanent scarring of the skin.
